Case Study

Prosumers Study

The concept of prosumers—individuals who both produce and consume energy—has gained traction as renewable energy solutions become more prevalent. This case study explores the views and expectations of the general population towards becoming prosumers, identifying key drivers and barriers in the process. The findings offer valuable insights for promoting prosumerism and advancing renewable energy initiatives.

Objective of the Study

The primary objective of this study is to identify the general population’s views and expectations towards becoming prosumers. By gaining knowledge about the drivers and barriers to prosumer adoption, the study aims to provide actionable insights for stakeholders interested in promoting renewable energy solutions and prosumer engagement.

Methodology

SAMPLE :500-700 micro, small and medium enterprises

METHODOLOGY:

Phase I desk research focusing on the oil and gas market.

Phase II Quantitative CATI interviews with decision makers from B2B clients

GEOGRAPHICAL SCOPE: EU Northern countries and China

LOI: 10-15 min

MAIN RESULTS

The study aimed to identify current and potential prosumers within the context of their prosocial behaviour and environmental engagement.

It uncovered people’s interest in government programs for investing in green energy solutions (e.g., photovoltaic panels and batteries).

Moreover, the study revealed that external factors (e.g., the rise in energy prices and regional social & political context) are increasingly making people want to become energy independent and/or reduce energy consumption costs.

KEY TAKE-AWAY

The study’s results were used to create guidelines that help interested people navigate the challenging path to becoming prosumers.

Additionally, the results were used to influence policy-making by lobbying for more robust government incentives and programs that support the adoption of renewable energy solutions.
